Post subject: No firestarter tray icons on sidux-amd64 xfce  PostPosted: Jul 13, 2008 - 11:21 AM

Nor sure if this is a sidux bug, an xfce bug or a firestarter bug, so here goes...

Installed firestarter firewall (apt-get install firestarter) and noted that according to the wizard (and manual), firestarter should show tray icons indicating firewall status. However, on sidux amd64 xfce, it doesn't.

I can see firestarter is still running as a process after I close the app window through conky...

Any idea(s) on how to fix?

maybe you can use stalonetray. it's a "stand alone tray" program for non-tray desktop.
see info with
apt-cache show stalonetray
and to install with
apt-get install stalonetray

Yeah, I don't think I want to go down that road...

although Firestarter web site claims the tray icon works in xfce (http://www.fs-security.com/screenshots.php), they give explicit instructions on how to set it up for gnome and kde, but no instructions for xfce. http://www.fs-security.com/docs/faq.php#trayicon

I suspect an xfce tray plugin is required.

I may have to look for a different firewall for sidux xfce, various things don't seem to work with this one.

You are correct! Right click the taskbar>Add new item>System Tray.

I just installed Firestarted on a 32bit version and it is displayed in the systray.
