if you look closer, you will see, that kdebase-runtime-bin-kde4 is, with others newly installed.
this is in preparation of the change to kde4.

A complete reboot and a reinstall of NVIDIA driver did the job. It works again!

So what's the status of this problem?
Do we allow kdebase-runtime-bin-kde4 to replace kdebase-bin-kde3
and still have a functioning system? And does this apply to both
32 and 64bit systems?

There was an issue sometime ago where kdebase-bin-kde3 was removed - kdebase-runtime-bin-kde4 installed. (The warnings came an hour later so I 'lost' kdebase-bin-kde3! You might want to search to see what the issues were last time.) Well, as I said, too late here but I haven't noticed anything not working on my 32 bit install over the last few months. This isn't a definitive answer but a point on the graph!

From the other side of the fence, this isn't that bad - I use the KDE 4.1 beta packages from experimental since yesterday and am now able to install Amarok from sid, along with them. Works quite well (amd64 over here).

Will this result in 2 different package-name-schemas for KDE3/4? Like in Kubuntu, where you can install both of them on the same system? Or will KDE4 stay in experimental until Lenny ships? I'm a bit confused...

Hi!

In my dist-upgrade ktorrent will pull in all the kde4 stuff.

An
Code:
apt-get install ktorrent2.2

before the dist-upgrade will install the kde3 version of ktorrent and no other kde4 files will be installed...

kde4 will not move to sid before Lenny goes stable. at least thats was the plan a few weeks ago, after the decision fell, that Lenny wont havev it.
i have not read anything different since then.

try removing this lines:
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
from both sections "Device"
in xorg.conf with nv driver

So is it the consensus that it's OK to let kdebase-bin-ked3 go
or is it that no one knows what to do?
