DNS caching as it was implemented in the existing DNS system was and is sucking since the internet started. The above mentioned cache poisoning attacks are a well known vector since years, and are a serious, but not the biggest problem. The DNS system is far too centralized, static and slow for today's internet, and that's where things must be changed.
To profit from any patches that might partially fix the problem, you should watch out for firmware upgrades for all your routers, and preferably use routers where you have control over the underlying operating system (open-wrt, dd-wrt, etc.). Stay also tuned for Debian pushing updates into it's repos. As usually, you will have them first in sidux/Debian Sid.
