Can anyone tell me whether sidux can use mobile phones as modems, please?
I have a Sony Ericsson K800i, which can be used as a USB modem -in Windows at least. What's the likelihood of being able to configure sidux to use it in the same way? |

I would just try it out!
Conntect the phone. If it identifies itself als a modem-device via usb, then you can configure it with a tool like kppp.

Well, the good news is that I not only managed to get sidux to recognise my K800i but was also able to use it as a modem. The less good news is that I'm not entirely sure how I did it.
The first part was easy enough. Ceni recognised the phone as a modem on USB 0. What was harder to find out was what settings I should use.
I think an important step was using the command dhclient usb0 as root. This gave me an IP address to put into Ceni. I still couldn't connect, however, until after I rebooted with the mobile connected and my ethernet disconnected and then ran the dhclient usb0 command again. As soon as I did that, it was fine.
If anyone would care to explain the procedure, I'm happy to listen. I just hope I can replicate it when I need to. |

I'm using my SE P1i quite often as GPRS/UMTS modem via bluetooth. Also I'm working on a sidux script to make this easy/automatic, but its not so easy to write. There is an old sidux script called gprsconnect but that does not work 100% anymore as it creates a symlink ( /dev/modemlink) which is removed by hal every reboot .
But it sound strange for me that you got an IP address via dhclient. Normally a ppp connection should be created.
So far,
