Hello,
I've read the wiki on installing wlan cards but (to me anyway) it doesn't go far enough. I need further help.
As advised by the sidux installer, I've:
- downloaded and installed the intel iwl3945 firmware,
- run modprobe -r iwl3945
- run modprobe iwl3945
I even downloaded and installed wpa_supplicant and a wpagui. Now, how do I search for and connect to the nearest access point?
I live on a campus with at least two wireless networks, so I need a connection manager that will scan for all available access points, present them to me and allow me to choose which one I wish to connect to.
I didn't see that in the wiki So can someone help me, please? |

There are two well-supported ways to do this.
1) Ceni
Just run Ceni as root, and it will list your nearby access points and let you connect to them.
2) WPA Roaming: http://sidux.com/index.php?module=pnWik ... wparoaming
This is a bit more complex, but once you set it up it will run without you. I personally use this on my machine. You can also use a gui with wpa_gui.
Some people like to use other GUIs, like wifi-radar, wicd, or network-manager-kde. Personally, I think they are junk--especially network-manager which requires a ton of overhead. However, use whatever makes you feel comfortable. |
