| I was just looking at that drive at newegg. It is nice to know that SATA optical drives now work well with Linux. I will retire the faithful NEC-3500. |

| Nice to know you found the issue...why not file a bug report regarding the Marvell IDE controller? Perhaps the kernel devs can come up with a fix to allow you to use your trusty old NEC drive again. |

LG Electronics GH20NS SATA (19¤, Germany)
or the new
LG Electronics GH22NP20 (29¤, Germany, poor avaibility)
I would go with the first one. |
