Hello all,
after doing an update yesterday from 2.6.25-4.slh3-sidux686 to 2.6.25-4.slh7-sidux686 I lost my wlan configuration.
I found this topic inisde the wiki:
Reinstall Ndiswrapper after kernel update
Quote:
After A kernel update you have to reinstall ndiswrapper kernel module. This kernel module is provided by the kernel zip file, so if you used smxi for updating your kernel its located in /usr/src/kernel-download/<kernel-version>
and
Quote:
dpkg -i /usr/src/kernel-downloads/$(uname -r)/ndiswrapper-modules*
First of all I want to point out two sections "/kernel-download/<kernel-version> in the 1. quote and /kernel-downloads in the 2. quote
Im my case there is no folder kernel-downloads ??
And <kernel-version> , is there meant the downloaded version or the still used version ?
My question is what should I put exactly in a konsole, if my kernel downloads are in /usr/src/ and I got yesterday the 2.6.25.4-slh7-sidux686 via smxi.
I don't won't to be fussy but I need to do it and i am a little confused
with that.
Has anyone a suggestion ?
best regards

Hi skyshow,
I'm sorry, I wrote this howto before sidux changed its kernel delivery (now with apt-get). Now you can just install the ndiswrapper module with apt-get. I suggest you install the meta package for the ndiswrapper kernel module (because then the module gets updated with a dist-upgrade as well).
As I don't have so much time atm and nobody else feels responsible to update the wiki at all I mark it 'not up to date'
Sorry again for confusion!

@hathe
thank you for your quick reply,
it's done as you wrote and now everything works fine.
And believe me I don't want to fret anybody and please don't excuse yourself for the great sidux wiki, I only want to understand how it tricks ?
By the way I am not a linux crack but I like sidux and step by step I try to maintain it by myself .I started with emigrating from Kanotix but I haven't much freetime to join my laptop on the private side so it tooks a little bit longer but I am on the track and sometimes I have to ask ?? and till now everytime I got highly skilled response.
Many thanks to the forum guys.

skyshow, if you used the manual kernel install in smxi there would be a directory: /usr/src/kernel-downloads/<kernel version>, but if you used the meta kernel upgrade method (via dist-upgrade), there would be no such directory.
For all current kernels however, you can always just use apt-get to install them.
Also, with meta packages I think ndiswrapper should have updated with the kernel in the dist-upgrade, and with the manual install, it should also update via smxi, automatically.
Failure to do this in either case would be a bug I believe. |

@h2
Now I know the difference and as mentioned in my last post it works as well as before.
But thanks for the explanation.
