hi sidux companions,
you could watch over the sidux growing up in brazil after the new sidux forum (non official) has started up in Brazil. please visit the url at http://comunidade-linuxnarede.eti.br/mo ... php?id=116
and
http://linuxhard.org/wp/archives/208
there many other brazilian and portuguese internet spots which are talking now about the sidux. if you browse at the brazilian google just click the word 'sidux' and you see so many news about the sidux for the portuguese speaking users and the new ourea release for the 2008.03 version. the brazil and portugal diidn't have any portuguese support for the sidux users and few many new ones are coming over there. we need your hellpful assistance there whom speaks the postuguese and has sidux background. please drop in on there at http://sidux.forumeiros.com/forum.htm
I'd appreciate your sharing and cooperation. best regards.thanks a lot.

hi, DeepDayse and forum buddies,
now the pclinuxos brasil newspapers is talking about the new brazilian sidux forum and It's praysing for the good support to the portuguese speaking users for sidux. the brazilian and portuguese linuxers have started up using the new ourea definiitely. they liked best because the user can choose the portuguese idiom just clicking f4.unfortunetely, lately some users have complained about a language bug for the reason even they selected the portuguese language, all the sidux system keeps in the english idiom up. I expect this bug will be solved up promptly in order to not to diminish the forum growing up there. I've been stressing for an immediate solution for this troublesome bug because the brasilian sidux forum has already some topics about it. you might drop in on at http://www.pclinuxosbr.blogspot.com/ and read about the news.
thumbs up for us at the moment! because we've been grabbing a lot of new users there and spreading the sidux out for the portuguese speaking countries peoples.

| @carioca: i do not think that the language problem is a bug. as far as i know sidux only has the programs in english or german on the live cd (and on the installed system) so u will have to install extra the language packs for portuguese for kde, OOo etc. But i dont know exactly what f4 should do so it might be a bug.. |

hi, edhunter! thanks for the reply, but not exactly that. I meant for the full kde live dvd. Please, read about the ourea release concerning about the portuguese language and other ones at http://sidux.com/Article454.html
quotation:
"A new feature in "Ουρέα" is the ability to select all other languages than German or US English from the grub menu (F4) in the kde-full flavour, installing the localisations for the desktop and many applications while booting. This ensures they are also present after installing sidux, while only installing the required languages for the given system. The amount of memory required for this feature depends on the language and sidux may refuse to install the given language packs automatically with insufficient RAM and the boot sequence will be continued in english language but with the desired localessettings (currency, date/ time format, keyboard charsets). 512 MB memory or more is supposed to be safe for all supported languages, which are:
* Croatian
* Danish
* Dutch
* Greek
* English (GB)
* French
* Italian
* Japanese
* Portuguese (BR and PT)
* Romanian
* Russian
* Spanish
* the language selection depends on the availability of sidux-manual translations, get involved to add your language."
best regards. |

Well, if those users want to be recognized, they'll have to get active and report bugs here, not in some other forum no developer ever reads. Bugs don't fix themselves, even worse for language/ locale related issues no one in the developer team can test; these things require user feedback (or they'll remain broken or will be removed at all).
"Outsourcing" user support to non-sidux forums will not help their case or acknowledge their status. All I can tell, is that there are very few users from brazil accessing this server --> few users, little interest.
Likewise forum sections for other languages will only be added if there is measurable demand and a self sustaining community with active ("trustable") moderators (right now, looking at the server statistics, only dutch and italian would meet this). |

hi, slh ! I got it! fyi some members of the sidux are brazilians and I think they have reported it . perhaps the developers have already known about this language bug and surely will be fixed sooner.
as regarding your "Outsourcing" user support to non-sidux forums will not help their case or acknowledge their status. " I just can tell you we have just started there at the beginning of september, 2008 for the portuguese spoken users because most of them do not speak english and at least we're trying to do our best for the portuguese native language users! with a non-official sidux forum, though. otherwise, sidux was not so conspicuous there and only a few linuxers were using it because It was considered a very diificult distro for the newcomers and the brazilian ones like best the brazilian distros like the kurumin kng, big linux, resulinux and so on. but from now on, we're trying to change it. I'm not sure I will be successful. perhaps I misjudeged it. but I really do not care about it.
best regards. |
