Just a warning to any rails devs out there that Ruby 1.8.7 severely borks rails 2.0.2. Rails 2.1 seems ok so far but YMMV. Found this link which describes how to fix it in Sid but I don't have an /etc/apt/preferences file so I'm not sure if it's a matter of just creating it or whether this lives somewhere else in sidux.
