If you use a modern processor and GoogleEarth 4.3 beta is very slow, there might be nothing wrong with the rendering, just turn off "View > Atmosphere".

Still: the start up process here takes quite a bit longer than version 4.2. But finally I figured out what the main problem was and I switched to the new beta now.
