Dear all,
I finally purchased a serial modem-trendnet brand so that I can fax from linux finally.
I prepared a cover letter then scanned some documents in order to fax to a company. I read in the efax help that it must be in postscript format. I used xsane for scanning but was not sure how to save it as postscript. The option to save or convert to postscript did not seem to be there.I created my cover letter in abiword and again was not sure how to turn it to postscript.
Does anyone know how to scan documents and then send them using efax-gtk? I am a total newbie with faxing in linux.
Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Marcia |

Hello Marcia,
in Openoffice you can use "File / Print" and in the dialog to choose a printer you have to tick off "print to file". The result is a .ps-file.
I think the same way should be possible in abiword, try it.

I finally got efax-gtk to work great. Thanks for your help all. I did use open office as suggested and it worked great.
I used openoffice draw to open my scanned documents since they had the pnm extensions and converted them to postscript with the print to file choice.
My next problem was getting my modem going. I am not sure if it was a permission problem but I read getting user permissions for /dev/ttySx was important. I found out by going into my bios that my modem was at /dev/ttyS0. I changed the permissions to user. Then I used pppconfig after downloading it since kppp did not work at all for me. After that I configured it with wvdial and pppconfig. Once I did all that I went back to efax-gtk and it worked great! I saw all the lights going, heard dialing and the fax ringing. It sent all of my documents with success. I am very pleased to finally have a working fax solution in linux.
Thanks very much for your help.
Sincerely,
Marcia |
