Iceweasel 3.0 is now OFF hold in smxi. I strongly recommend you update ALL your extensions before you install this new version, and make sure you remove any extensions that may cause problems. I tested this and it works fine, I did not need to use a new profile to do this upgrade, but you are well advised to do that, although the import procedure for the new Iceweasel profile might work better if it starts in your old one. This is a very large change in Firefox/Iceweasel.
I wrote a little upgrade item for firefox 3 and extension upgrades, some extensions require that you download the latest version from the maintainer's website, not the mozilla.com extensions directly.
I strongly suggest you check ALL your extensions BEFORE you do the upgrade, and remove any that might cause issues.
Zulu9 reports failure with noscript, for example, so I recommend you remove that extension before you start the upgrade.
I also recommend you shut down any sessions, close firefox/iceweasel before the upgrade so it doesn't restart automatically and break when you restart kde/x/etc.
If you want to be extra careful, start iceweasel manually with -profilemanager option, and create a new profile, but I cannot guarantee this will iimport your cookies, passwords, form data, and bookmarks.
I found problem reports on the internet, and the link here lists one that was disturbing, but my own tests show it's fine, so let's keep our fingers crossed.
I strongly urge you to save your entire profile directory somewhere else in case something goes wrong, that way you can at least install firefox 2 manually and reuse the profile, at worst. |

Here no problem with iceweasel 3, even with noscript!
I use it from a week.
I performed a clean reinstall, thanks to PasswordExporter extension, export bookmarks, copied my session within the SessionManager extension, and reinstalled my favorite extensions.
I have problem only with my favorite theme. |

One of my upgrades is failed completely, I don't know why, but swiftfox, luckily, works fine.
The symptom, in case anyone else sees it, as as soon as iceweasel opens a slightly complex page, it crashes instantly, or if it tries to open addons manager, or a few other things.
I have tried removing .mozilla, creating new blank profiles, etc, and nothing matters.
swiftfox works fine with my old profile.
Another install, almost but not quite, identical, worked perfectly. No idea how this will ever get fixed, there are a variety of debian bug reports about segmentation faults in iceweasel 3.0, so I'm hoping something pops up that will explain it. |

been a little ot, do anybody knows why the latest iceweasel version still 3.0~rc2-2 and not 3.0 as it should be following Firefox release version? Is it realy rc version and not final released ?

I've found it keeps forgetting saved passwords at random too and crashes occasionally.
This is with a fresh profile (recreated at least half a dozen times by now) with only my saved passwords, saved cookie exceptions and bookmarks transferred over. |

What is the reason for taking it off hold? And if this is the same version
that has been on hold for some time then why has it been on hold?
People are still reporting serious issues with IceWeasel 3.0 so why
all of a sudden do we take it off hold? |

Huh -- I had not seen any problem with Iceweasel 3 since I installed my new system on Friday, until I read this thread. I decided to try my "acid test" web site for browser plugins:
http://www.elsevier.nl/video/
It works, kinda, with mozilla-youknowwhatplayer plugin.
First attempt to play a video, it will attempt to load it, and then it will say "stopped". But if I restart, by pushing "pause" and then "play", it will play the videos. But the second time I did it, Iceweasel crashed. So, it works 50%, I guess! |

Hi,
I risked the upgrade that went without problems. I have all my bookmarks. TabMixPlus was suggested to deinstall as it is not compatible to IW 3 (as per statement). No-Script has all its settings and positive-list as well as AdBlock-Plus.
Should I experience problems, I will tell here! |

Upgraded seamlessly here - lost two themes and that was all. No crashes so far . . .
As far as the question regarding a 'hold' is concerned, the package isn't 'broken' and doesn't have dependants that would break if it were installed - so, this would seem the type of package not to hold at all - if people don't like it or have problems, they can return to Firefox 2 and hold it themselves.

Upgraded without problems. Only error I can see is that I lost my sidux
password which was easily re-entered. |

| I'd recommend to update all extensions before upgrading to iceweasel/firefox/swiftfox (as h2 mentions at the beginning). Then open a terminal and start the browser in --safe-mode& (& makes the browser to work in the background). A dialog box will appear and then select "Start in safe-mode". When it finishes opening, check again for extensions updates. Next time you start your browser it should sail nicely. |

| I did update some minutes ago. No problem so far. The history of visited websites has changed, now only 12 entries, many URLs missing. No problem with PWs. And IW now is way faster. |

All my history has been 'remembered'. Still no issues two days later.
