Networking - No Wireless Driver on LiveCD? lazylogic - May 30, 2008 - 03:55 PM Post subject: No Wireless Driver on LiveCD?
Just downloaded sidux-2008-01-nyx-kde-lite-i386-200804112335.iso and tried it on my desktop (wireless through usb dongle , rt73) and my laptop (wireless through iwl3945)
I've burn the CD without checking the md5 (taking things for granted ) and now noticed that I can't get the wilreless on both machines to connect.
Since the CD is <500MB (100MB + space unused), believe the some common wireless drivers should be there. I am unable to locate the wireless drivers on the LiveCD. Is it the norm or maybe I've got a bad download?

sidux won't include non-free drivers on the CD
But info on what to do about it for wireless is always included in the release notes:
Totally agree. if the drivers are not in line with sidux's principles, so be it. They shouldn't be included
Just that I was fiddling with ARCH the other day and noticed that it comes with some common wireless drivers. Managed to help a few friends (just know them in the local library ) installed and running ARCH on their laptop in the local library (no RJ45 connection, only wireless).
Have wrong perception that those wireless drivers are open, my bad. But it does help in situations where RJ45 connections are not available during installation.
Thanks for the link to the release notes, its great info.

Clarification: (most of) the wireless drivers are free, but depend on firmware files that are not. It is the firmware that is not distributable on the cd.
