sidux-manual turned 1 year today. 1 year ago a decision was made to send the the sidux manual 'live' and even though sidux did not have an ISO.It went 'live' in 2 languages English and German (moto did 85% of the translation to -de)
1 year later sidux-manual is in 12 languages, and currently 2 other languages are in translation mode - Greek and Chinese
A lot has changed since sidux 2007-04 "Ερως" got released, most importantly additional hardware support for concurrent graphics-, DVB-, ALSA- and wireless LAN devices, which suggests to fresh up "Ερως", while continuing the development for sidux 2008-01 "Νυξ". Consequently we are now proud to announce the immediate availability of the sidux 2007-04.5 "Ερως" christmas special for amd64 and i686 systems, shipping in roughly ≈445 MB KDE lite flavours and a combined i386+amd64 release with ≈1430 MB KDE for kde-full.
sidux is a full featured Debian sid based live CD with a special focus on hard disk installations, a clean upgrade path within sid and additional hard- and software support. The ISO is completely based on Debian sid, enriched and stabilized with sidux' own packages and scripts.
The Japanese -ja version of the the sidux Operating System manual with muchan as translator and maintainer hits the sidux site.Whats more, he did it on his own, and started in November just 5 weeks ago.
The sidux Operating System manual first went live on 28th Dec 2006, so its fitting that muchan representing the Japanese language is the 12th language to be added to mark of the sidux-manuals first aniversary and means that since sidux opened it doors a new language has been added every month!
If printed the sidux OS manual would run to 230+ pages per translation,
The sidux Operating System Manual in Japanese is here
muchan, take a bow, you did it so fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and you did it while taking an active part in all other facets of sidux through #IRC,sidux forums and wiki and other backend testing to ensure the best possble outcome for everyone, Just sensational!

Today one year ago was the official start of sidux with the first 2 users registered on the forum, with many more to follow in the days after.I remember well the time about 15 months ago.
We were all working with and for this other distribution and we were all frustrated. Some had already left the project. No release in sight, nobody knew what was going to happen, communication between team and project leader was more or less non existant.
We all saw a basically good project going down the drain, for some of us after 3 years of work invested and we could not do much about it.
All of us were pondering on what to do and when and how to do it. What helped making a decision was the anouncement from the project leader to change the base of the distro to something other than debian unstable. After that, things started moving fast, hours later slam had set up sidux forum, irc to follow soon after, we agreed on the name sidux and off we went.
Attention as well as expectations on the project were high from the start so after a few days we set up this declaration which defines our goals and i think they were fullfilled and sidux went quite far in one year.
My idea saying happy birthday was, to ask people that were with the project from the beginning to give some personal insight of their feelings about our project. Some have found the time to do so and so here they are:
While sidux is approaching its first birthday, we are proud to announce the immediate availability of the sidux 2007-04 "Ερως" release for amd64 and i686 systems, shipping in a ≈445 MB KDE lite and a ≈680 MB KDE full flavour.
